October 1 (2014), was highly influential on African cinema, serving as a landmark film that helped transition Nollywood from low-budget, fast-paced productions to high-quality, cinematic, and internationally recognised storytelling. It is widely considered as a masterpiece of the "New Nigerian Cinema" era, due to its technical excellence and cultural thematic focus. It was the first African film to be licensed by Netflix, helping advance the use of global streaming within Africa too

Set in 1960 during the final weeks of British colonial rule in Nigeria, a police officer is sent to a remote village to investigate a string of murders and solve the case before the national independence day.

Winner of Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Drama at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards. It also won Best Actor and Best Costume Design at the 11th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
